Born Danielle Jane Minogue in Melbourne, Australia on October 20th 1971 to parents, Australian Ron Minogue and Welsh Born Carol Jones.
Dannii is the youngest of 3 children, her older sister, Kylie and brother Brendan.
Dannii first appeared in 2 Australian tv programmes, Skyways and The Sullivans aged only 7. In 1979 Dannii became a regular and well loved member of weekly music programme Young Talent Time where in her 6 years on the show, she featured in several sell out, national tours and sang on two albums, which also featured her first ever solo recordings.
On leaving YTT in 1988, Dannii filmed a new drama series for Channel Nine called All The Way which was set in the 60s, as well as, filming a half hour variety show entitled New Generation that was shown internationally. Dannii then joined long running Australian soap, Home and Away as teenage rebel, Emma Jackson. In a role which was written especially for her. Home and Away catapulted Dannii into a European and much bigger audience and her popularity was cemented when, by the end of 1989, Dannii was voted Best Female Personality and Best New Star in Australian Magazines.
Also in 1989, Dannii launched her own fashion line which was an immediate success, selling out in just 10 days accross Australia. Dannii released a further 3 ranges, all of which were just as successful.
Dannii signed with Mushroom Records early 1989 and traveled to New York to work on her debut album.
In 1990 her first album, simply titled, Dannii and was released in Australia, reaching Number 4 in the Australian Album Chart. Later that year, Dannii quit Home and Away and after releasing a further 2 hit singles in Australia, headed to London. In 1991, Four singles were released in the UK - Love and Kisses, Success, Jump To The Beat and Baby Love, all becoming Top 15 hits. Her debut album, now titled Love and Kisses in Britain went gold on its release and reached Number 8 in the British Album Charts.
Later that same year, Dannii made her film debut in Secrets.
An Australian film which told the story of 5 teenagers stuck in a basement of a hotel.
It failed to attract much attention from anywhere and had limited distribution.
Dannii's follow up album, Get Into You, 1993, whilst not as successful as Love and Kisses, spawned two hit singles, This Is It and This Is The Way reached Number 52 in The Album Chart.
After parting ways with Mushroom Records, Dannii recorded 2 songs with dance act, Eurogroove. Rescue Me was on a soundtrack to Japanese film, Shakaku whilst Boogie Woogie was released as a single. Both tracks were only ever released in Japan where they reached Number 1.
Dannii then put a temporary hold on her music career to concentrate her attention on tv presenting.
Through 1994 to 1997, Dannii co-hosted Channel 4's morning programme The Big Breakfast, presented a Disney Tv Special, posed naked for Australian Playboy (which sold out in an incredible 3 days) recieved critical aclaim as a presenter on teenage show, It's Not Just Saturday, co-presented MTV's Hanging Out then Electric Circus, filmed adventure series Scoop, presented hit UK music tv show, Top Of The Pops, launched her UK clothing range and released an 18 month calendar, which became the biggest selling calendar on record - selling over 50,000 copies on the first month of its release.
In 1995 Dannii contributed to UK Charity single The Gift Of Christmas alongside numerous other artists for Childline.
It reached Number9 that christmas and Dannii performed the single on Top Of The Pops.
After a 3 year break from music, Dannii signed with Eternal Records - a label of Warner Brothers Records.
Whilst still presenting Electric Circus, Dannii released her third studio album titled, Girl. Whilst not a huge success on the album charts, its first single, All I Wanna Do became a instant dance hit and a firm fan favourite.
Dannii then jetted off to Australia to star in Grease - The Arena Spectacular where she played Rizzo to audiences of over 450,000. Her performance was well recieved to critics and crowds alike. She then returned to the UK to kick start her first ever tour, Unleashed '98, which took in over 23 dates.
In 1998, Mushroom Records, to celebrate the labels 25 year anniversary and due to Dannii's continued success released 2 Greatest Hits albums.
Released only in Australia, the first was a collection of all Danniis singles, the other contained popular remixes.
With Dannii having worldwide success and her profile high, Mardi Gras, Australia asked Dannii to launch the first Gay and Lesbian record label and Dannii re-recorded Everlasting Night. A song originally recorded in 1995 for her unreleased album with Mushroom Records and it became the official anthem of 1999.
Towards the end of 1999, Dannii returned to the stage to play Lady Macbeth and wowed audiences for 3 weeks with mixed reviews from the critics.
In 2000, Dannii auditioned for the lead role in Notre-Dame De Paris in London's West End. Having secured the part as gypsy girl Esmeralda, Dannii took to the stage in February 2001 playing to over 2,000 people a night at the Dominion Theatre. Dannii later went on to win Best Stage Performance at the Maxim Awards for this performance. Later this year Dannii then gained critical acclaim for her role in The Vagina Monologues.
Dutch group, Riva then approached Dannii to guest vocal on their track, Who Do You Love Now, what would become one of 2001's biggest singles, reaching Number 3 in the UK Single Chart.
By 2002 and following the success of Who Do You Love Now, Dannii signed a six album deal with London Records and began working on her fourth album, titled Neon Nights. It consisted of dance-pop records and Dannii is credited as co-writing and co-producing almost all the tracks. Neon Nights peaked at Number8 in the UK Album Charts and gave Dannii some of her best reviews to date and produced 3 Top Ten singles. The second single, I Begin To Wonder became Danniis highest charting single, hitting the Number 2 spot, (only kept off the Number1 spot by Christina Aguliera's, Beautiful.) Dannii then released two mash-ups of her singles, I Begin To Wonder and I Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling. Both were successful on the dance charts with the mash-up, Don't Wanna Lose This Groove gaining attention as not only did it sample Madonna's Into The Groove, Dannii became one of the few artists ever to be gained permission from Madonna to sample her music.
In June of 2003 Dannii turned back to presenting but this time on the radio, with her own show on Capital Radio Network, UK and Austereo Network, Australia titled Neon Nights.
In 2004 did guest vocals on a chill out tune called Take Me Inside with Afterlife. The Christophe Goze Mix appeared on Afterlife's album titled Speck of Gold.
In October 2004 was announced as an ambassader for The Terrence Higgins Trust which is a charity to raise awareness to HIV/Aids and she continues to work with the charity today.
She has done yearly photoshoots to front the campaign, most notably posing nude with just a red ribbon covering her body.
Due to finiancial problems Eternal Records were having, Dannii was released from her contract and signed with All Around The World Records, an Independant label mid 2004. October 2004 saw Dannii release a collaboration with dance act, Flower Power - You Won't Forget About Me. It peaked at Number 7 in the UK Singles Chart and became a Top 20 hit in Australia. I Can't Sleep At night was intended to be it's follow up but instead another collaboration, this time with SoulSeekerz, titled Perfection was released November 2005. It was a moderation success and reached Number 11 UK AND Number 13 in Australia.
It was around this time Dannii was invited to guest vocal with Thriller Jill on Trip. It appeared on the album Departure Lounge - World Grooves.
Dannii's follow-up to Neon Nights was her first, Official Greatest Hits album. The Hits and Beyond had Dannii's most successful singles as well as 6 new songs including the albums lead single, So Under Pressure, released June 2006. The album entered the UK Charts at Number 17.
In September 2006, Dannii was approached to record a christmas song, Dannii did a cover of I'll Be Home For Christmas and it appeared on a compilation cd titled Spirit of Christmas.
On Children In Need November 2006, Dannii performed a cover of Sister Sledges - He's The Greatest Dancer. A studio version, remixed by Fugitive was then used on a complation Clubland 10 cd and the following month, it was released to UK Dance Clubs as a promotional single and reached Number 1 in the Club Charts.
2007 saw Dannii return to tv work, seeing her as a judge on Australia's Got Talent as well as been both a judge and a mentor on the fourth series of The X Factor alongside Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne.
Dannii mentored the Boys category which saw Dannii choose Andy Williams, Rhydian Roberts and the eventual X Factor winner 2007 Leon Jackson.
Musically, 2007 saw 5 releases from Dannii. Firstly re-releases of her Girl and Neon Nights albums, both double discs including remixes. In November Dannii released Unleashed, a collection of unheard material from her time with London Records, The Video Collection which included all Dannii's music video's as well as alot of behind the scenes footage/extras. On December 3rd 2007 Dannii released a new single titled Touch Me Like That with Jason Nevins. The single premiered on Radio1 and was available as a digital download a week before its release and charted at Number 48 UK.
Also In November 2007 Dannii released a digital download only album entitled Club Disco. It included previous singles such as So Under Pressure, Perfection and You Won't Forget About Me but also includes cancelled single I can't Sleep At night, as well as He's The Greatest Dancer, a chilled out version of Xanadu and a great colleration with her friend Roger Sanchez - Do You Believe Me Now.
Club Disco is to be given its physical release in Australia May 2008 with a 2 disc release and slight track differences. Touch Me Like That will appear whilst the Roger Sanchez collaboration, Do You Believe Me Now won't. The 2nd disc contains alot of unreleased remixes.
April 2008 saw Dannii get involved in Olivia Newton John's Great Walk To Beijing where for sponsers, Dannii completed stages 2 and 3 of walking The Great Wall of China alongside other well known celebrities and cancer survivors.
Dannii is now currently back in Australia where she more recently performed her cover of Xanadu on It Takes Two and is now filming Australia's Got Talent, Series 2.
